Lutsharel Geertruida, the Dutch right-back playing for Feyenoord, is reportedly on Barcelona’s shortlist for the upcoming transfer window. After previously considering Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and Villarreal’s Juan Foyth, both of whom were deemed too expensive, Barcelona is now said to be turning their attention to Geertruida, who has caught the eye of head coach Xavi.

Geertruida has had an excellent season at Feyenoord, impressing both as a central defender and a right-back, and has recently become a new international. His development has not gone unnoticed, and a potential transfer to Barcelona would be a fitting reward for his performances.

Football journalist Gerard Romero recently announced on the streaming service Twitch that Geertruida is on Xavi’s radar, further fueling speculation about a potential move to the Catalan giants.

Geertruida expert in two roles

Lutsharel Geertruida has been a key player for Feyenoord this season, playing over 3,400 minutes for the Dutch club. He has filled in as a central defender excellently, proving to be even better in that role than as a right-back, where he is mainly in the picture at Barcelona. The Catalan giants reportedly see Geertruida as the ideal right-back for the coming years, as they will need to replace both Sergino Dest and Hector Bellerin next summer.

Feyenoord recently extended Geertruida’s contract until the summer of 2025, which means they can ask for a top price for the defender. According to data from FootballTransfers, Geertruida currently has an Expected Transfer Value (xTV) of €10.5 million, but this figure is expected to increase significantly in the coming months due to Feyenoord’s performance domestically and in the Champions League.

Geertruida is not the only Feyenoord star who could leave this summer, with Orkun Kokcu and Santiago Gimenez also attracting interest from foreign clubs.
