Former Chelsea head coach Graham Potter is reportedly the favourite to become the next permanent manager of Ligue 1 club Nice. The French club is currently under the interim charge of Didier Digard, following the dismissal of Lucen Favre earlier this year, and has identified Potter as its top candidate for the role.
If appointed, it would not be Potter’s first job overseas, as he previously made a name for himself at Swedish outfit Ostersunds, guiding them from the fourth tier to fifth place in the top flight. The 47-year-old also worked as the technical director for the Ghana women’s team earlier in his coaching career.
Potter was sacked by Chelsea in April, after an unsuccessful seven-month stint in charge at Stamford Bridge. Nice, currently sitting in 10th place in Ligue 1, will be hoping that Potter can help turn their fortunes around and lead the club to success in the upcoming seasons.
Potter to escape England for a while?
After being linked with a potential move to Tottenham following Antonio Conte’s dismissal, it appears that Graham Potter may be looking to take a break from the constant scrutiny in England. The former Chelsea head coach has been tipped as a future England manager and a stint abroad may be beneficial for his career.
Nice, who are owned by INEOS, the company of potential Manchester United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are reportedly interested in appointing Potter as their next permanent manager. The French club had a strong season last year, coming close to Champions League qualification, but have struggled in the current campaign.
Despite this, they did reach the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League this season, where they lost 4-3 on aggregate to Basel. If Potter were to take on the role at Nice, he would have the opportunity to help turn the club’s fortunes around and potentially guide them to success in future seasons.
