Manchester City has reached the UEFA Champions League final for the second time in three years after a remarkable 4-0 victory over Real Madrid at Etihad Stadium, securing a 5-1 aggregate win over the holders of the competition. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, City made the breakthrough on 23 minutes when Bernardo Silva scored after being played in by Kevin De Bruyne. Silva doubled City’s lead 14 minutes later with a header beyond Thibaut Courtois. Manuel Akanji added the third on 76 minutes with a header from a De Bruyne free-kick, which deflected off Eder Militao. Julian Alvarez scored a fourth in stoppage time to complete a stunning victory.
City will now face Inter Milan in the final in Istanbul, which will be their first at this stage of the competition since they lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the 2020/21 season. Inter confirmed their place in the final by defeating AC Milan 1-0 for a 3-0 aggregate win in the other semi-final.
This victory has also boosted City’s chances of winning the treble. They are one win away from securing their seventh Premier League title, which they could claim at home to Chelsea on Sunday. They also face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on 3 June. The City team will be hoping to continue their excellent form and claim all three trophies to cap off a remarkable season.
