There are reports that Cristiano Ronaldo could be unhappy with his current situation in Saudi Arabia, and Chelsea have been tipped to make a move for the Portuguese superstar this summer. Ronaldo was previously linked with a move to Chelsea last year when he was struggling during his second stint with Manchester United.

Chelsea have been tipped to make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer with reports emerging that he is unhappy with life in Saudi Arabia.

At that time, Chelsea were reportedly interested in Ronaldo as a marquee signing, but then-manager Thomas Tuchel blocked the idea before being sacked. Instead, Ronaldo moved to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he became the highest-paid player in the world.

However, the nation’s strict social laws and the league’s global standing have reportedly left Ronaldo questioning his future there. It remains to be seen where Ronaldo will end up next, but Chelsea could be a potential destination for the Portuguese forward.

‘Chelsea could reignite their interest’

According to reports, Chelsea could reignite their interest in Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, given his reported unhappiness in Saudi Arabia. The club’s owner, Todd Boehly, was reportedly keen on signing Ronaldo last summer but was eventually blocked by then-manager Thomas Tuchel. However, with current boss Mauricio Pochettino likely to demand a forward to lead the line, Chelsea could be in the market for an experienced and proven goalscorer like Ronaldo.

While Ronaldo may not be a perfect fit for the Chelsea project, they are one of the few teams in world football who could match his salary expectations, and they do have a goalscoring problem. Currently, Kai Havertz has led the line for much of this season, but he is a converted midfielder with only seven Premier League goals to his name this season.

Chelsea does have recognised No.9s in Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but Lukaku wants to make his loan return to Inter Milan permanent, while Aubameyang is determined to re-join Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of the season. Chelsea will also need to balance their books to fund such a deal, with the shadow of Financial Fair Play looming after Boehly’s £600m spend on players since taking over last May.
